History

Visiting Health Services of Passaic Valley was founded on July 1, 1973 as a result of a merger of two existing home health agencies. The consolidation of Community Home Health Care Service of Greater Paterson, founded in 1962 and Home Health Services of Passaic County, founded in 1966 made it possible to more efficiently and effectively serve the home health needs of the community. It allowed a high quality service to be performed at a lower cost to the agency and the community. Since the payer mix of VHS patients consist primarily of Medicare, Medicaid, and the indigent, it must rely heavily on outside sources for support. In January of 1988, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center and Chilton Memorial Hospital formed a parent corporation to assist VHS in its efforts to regain and maintain a sound financial operation.
