Visiting Health Services of  Passaic Valley was founded on July 1, 1973, as a result of a merger of two  existing home health care agencies.  The consolidation of Community Home Care Service of Greater Paterson, founded in 1962 and Home Health Services of Passaic County, founded in 1966, was enacted to better serve the home health needs of the community.  It allowed a high quality service to be performed at a lower cost to the agency and community.  Today, renamed Visiting Health Services of New Jersey  Inc., it renders hundreds of thousands of visits in Passaic, Bergen and Morris Counties to its patients each  year.  The agency provides home health care services including Nursing, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Medical Social Services, Dietary Consultation and Home Health Aide services.  It also administers a certified Hospice, Hospital Home Care Coordination,  High-Tech IV Therapy and Home Tele-Monitoring. The agency’s philosophy is to service all patients with the finest care as prescribed by their physician  regardless of their ability to pay.  Its goal is to provide awareness and assistance to an ever increasing  patient population.  As the need for home health services increases, Visiting Health Services of New Jersey, Inc. stands ready to accept the challenge and to be  innovative in both  the restorative and   preventive aspects  of health care. Visiting Health Services of New Jersey, Inc. has an excellent reputation which is a  direct reflection of  its devoted employees, staff and board members who all share in  the philosophy of “quality first”.

VHS today is part of the St. Joseph’s Healthcare System, which through its home care and hospice services affords the system to encompass all facets of  care. A patient entering the system can now access all appropriate high quality care without ever leaving the system. Continuity of care is seamless, allowing the best possible outcome for the patient. The hospice program administered by Visiting Health Services, Passaic Valley Hospice, is a non-profit, Medicare-certified hospice program serving patients throughout Northern New Jersey.  It has provided care and comfort to the terminally ill and their families since 1980.  Its primary goal and mission is to enable terminally ill patients to remain at home with their loved ones throughout the last months of their lives.  This goal is achieved by offering a full range of palliative care services to the dying and their families. Registered nurses, social workers, pastoral care, home health aides and volunteers are all members of the hospice team. The interdisciplinary staff, Patient Care Coordinator, Medical Director and Volunteer Coordinator attend weekly team meetings to ensure coordination and continuity of care.
